The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Bootable Anti-virus CD or online scanner with Opera browser / Symantec Virus Definitions To Export?

Asked by BlueSteelBass in Anti-Virus Applications, Windows XP Operating System, Anti-Virus

I'm not looking for the Bart PE because there are not any disks for the OS included with this system. The computer will boot Windows XP, then continuously 'log off' and 'log on' to windows. Even in safe mode it does the same thing. Even with all network connections closed it keeps happening. I've tried stopping all the services and startup programs so I could try to get an anti-virus scan to happen, but windows keeps 'logging off' and on again.

Another question - Symantec has an option in the utilities partition of the computer to scan for viruses, however the virus definitions are too old. The computer was purchased in December. It states before scanning:
If possible, copy the latest virus definitions from another computer with Norton AntiVirus or Symantec AntiVirus installed.
I have SAV Corporate Edition, but when I look in
c:/documents and settings/all users/application data/symantec/symantec antivirus corporate edition/7.5/I2_LDVP.VDB
there are not any files in the location. I tried downloading the .xdb file from Symantec's ftp site for the latest updates, burned it to a disk, but the virus scanner does not like the file for some reason. What files do I need to add to the CD?Start Free Trial
