Question

How to see build number of OfficeScan 8.0 clients in management console?

Asked by: jpletcher1

We run Trend Micro OfficeScan 8.0.  I need to make sure that all our clients are at 8.0 with SP1 and patch 3.1 which is basically the same thing as build 3243.  I see nowhere in the web managment console where it gives the build number of the clients.  It gives every piece of information but this one.  Does anyone know where to find this?

I think it would be easier to have a look at the logs that you have on the server, because after the server pushes the updates on the client, the client PC's would be also sending out events and reports back to the server. If you have a look at the server logs and check for updates on clients that will give you an indication. Lets assume that your server downloaded and pushed updates on 07/07/2009 02:50:00, then this is what you should find in front of all of your clients. If this is not present for any client(s), then those are the machines that need to be looked into.

This document might help (its link to official documentation page), please see the correct version of Control Manager and use the appropriate administrators guide (if version is 5.0, then see page 104 in this document):

http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/documentation/guides/TMCM5.0_AG.pdf

or else, here is the webpage with all versions on it:

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/product.asp?productid=7

Hope it helps.

I am not sure what Control Manager is, but I had hoped there was a way to do this through the OfficeScan Managment Interface since that is the tool to manage the OfficeScan clients.

if you login it to the officescan console click on network computers change your client tree view to view all this will show you everthing about the client you may have to scroll to the left to see everything the attached screen shot is from version 10 but version 8 is the same

I see this also shows the version of the client but not the build.  I have all my clients at 8.0 SP1, but there are probably 4 build levels depending on which patches you have applied post 8.0 SP1, and in order to upgrade from 8.0 to 10.0 you need to be at the build that is equal to 8.0 SP1 with patch 3.1.

For example, I need to see that a client is at version 8.0 build 3243.  This means it has SP1 and patch 3.1.

When we upgraded from version 8 to 10 I was fortune to have some engineers from Trend on site and they mention the build level but where more concerned what the build level of server was and not the clients they told me that the clients will update when the server is updated.
I do not have any more clients running version 8 anymore I thought it would show you what build level your clients are at. Like warturtle stated about Control Manager is the best method to get this info from. Control Manager is the management apps for Trend Micro. Once installed you point all your Trend Products to it. From the console, you can manage and gather data from all your trend products including build info.

Sorry I can not provide anymore info in to this issues

Per Trend, you cannot view the build number from the management tools.  The only way is to look at specific file versions.

by: ghihelpdeskPosted on 2010-01-13 at 10:33:53ID: 26306839

To view the build version on the main console, there is a drop down menu on the top right, there click on About.  A new window should pop up and it will tell you the build number.
