anti-infection CD solution

I am looking for the following.

Situation arises where a system may be infected by a virus, spyware, etc.

I want to be able to boot the system from CD (not USB).  The CD will either have on it anti-infection software or will be able to access the Internet to download updates for the anit-infection software on it or be able to download freeware anti-infection solutions and their latest updates.  Obviously the CD can not be written to so the updates will have to be put on a RAM disk it creates or some USB attached device that can store the latest updates for the purposes of the scan.

Have you thought about deep-freeze?

As far as freeware I like AVG.

ASKER

Yes, I am familiar with DeepFreeze but what does DeepFreeze have to do uninfecting an  infected PC? Please re-read the question and if you have some experience with the topic then I would appreciate hearing about it. If not please let someone else respond.

Is there no way to update the virus definition on the fly? Connect to Internet and update a RAM disk created by the CD? Or have the updates redirected onto a USB stick that I might bring along that the CD is capable of 'knowing' about? Those were the criteria I set out. This is a general question - I am not experiencing a problem now - I am just trying to build a better toolkit.
Cd writes updates to hard drive once connected to internet through wired lan connection. Not sure about wireless lan connection. Never had to grab the update folder as always had machines with issue connected to net.

Came accross a link before about manually getting updates for that purpose(usb stick). Not straightforward> have to find link and will post it.

Above post is what I have in notepad> just didn't edit it :)
This may help>havn't tried it. Will try it out next week!

Optoma:

II tested Kaspersky and it worked very well. Thanks.

Canon

Thanks for the lead. I have taken a quick look and it seems like a good product at a good price. More tools are better than less. I agree 100% with the off-line scanning strategy. That's why I posed the question here.
Sorry. Forgot to thank Tzucker for UBCD.
You're welcome :)
