Migrating from SAV CE to SEP

Hi Experts,

Several of my clients are looking to migrate from SAV CE to Symantec Endpoint Protection. Does anyone know the proper migration procedure or any experience to share?

Thanks in advance!!

I have to agree with hypercat...the way which he/she described the deployment is the best way to go.
Another comment that might be helpful - SEP is policy-based. In SAV, you define all of the settings for servers and clients in the SSC.  In SEP, you use policies created in the SEP management console program.  These policies are then pushed out to the clients automatically.  If you document your current SSC settings for each client and/or server group before you start, you'll have a much easier time of it when you start creating client and server groups and policies in SEP.

Is there any way to export those settings to a file for dr purposes?
In SEP, yes - right from the SEP Management Server console, in the Policies section, there are options to export and import policies.  It works great - I do this myself both for DR purposes and because I have a number of clients who use the product.  I can re-use the same basic policies for many different clients without having to recreate them manually each time.

If you were asking about the older SAV version, there isn't any way to export settings from SAV 10.x and then import them into SEP policies (but wouldn't it be wonderful if there were?).
What is the best way to remotely wipe all of the SEP clients?
I'm not sure what you're asking:

1.  If you're asking about wiping the old version of SAV, you don't need to do this. You can just install the new version of SEP and it will automatically wipe the older SAV software off the workstations.

2.  If you're asking about uninstalling SEP itself, I don't know of any way to do this remotely, other than installing a new version of SEP over the old one.  To completely remove SEP, I think you'd have to go to each machine and manually uninstall the software.
I upgraded a client of mine following instructions from above, after rolling out the clients, which were successful, i still dont see them in the console, why is that?
Look in the Temporary folder under the clients tab. Is the machine you pushed to there?
Sorry for the delay in answering you - CEC-Admin's comment is a good one.  When you did your rollout, did you specify that the clients should be added automatically to the correct group?  Otherwise, they will show up under the temporary one.  Are you still having this problem?
No, they came up, SEP is really bloated, I ended up getting rid of it completely because it was slowing servers down. We are currently looking to replace Symantec with another solution.
OK, but please don't forget to close this question.  Good luck!
Hypercat, Thank you for your help!!
What if we don't have another server and we need to use the same server that has SAV, can we still go to SEP?

Thanks
