The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Re-Adding Unmanaged Symantec Endpoint 11.0 MR2 Clients To Management Server

Asked by gcz in Symantec Anti-Virus Software, SBS Small Business Server, Enterprise Anti-Virus

Hi Experts,

I thought I would come here, as my experience of Symantec's tech support is less than impressive:

Due to a problem with our server, we lost the SEPM database and had to re-install everything from scratch. Now it's re-installed, obviously none of the existing SEP clients are talking to the server. They are configured to update from an external LiveUpdate server, so they are running OK, just not in contact with the server at all. I want to get these unmanaged clients talking to the server so I can add them back into the new groups to apply policies etc.

Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I have tried re-rolling the install package back out to the PCs, stating my new group, but this doesn't seem to do anything. The package installs, but the clients do not appear in the group and the policies aren't applied.

I have also tried adding in the PCs via Active Directory. The machines appear in the group, but they do not contact the server, so the policies are not applied.

The only thing that has worked for me is to manually remove the client from the PCs, then roll the package out again but this is impractical to say the least.

I may be missing something obvious as my knowledge of this software is limited. Please can anyone advise how I can get these unmanaged clients back into the groups without manually re-installing?
