IIS install error:  Setup cannot copy the file appsrv.ms_.

Asked by wasser in Symantec Anti-Virus Software, Microsoft IIS Web Server, Windows 2003 Server

I'm installing IIS with ASP.net (www services) enabled, because this is a requirement to install Symantec Endpoint Protection (antivirus etc) 11X.  When I do the install, of IIS I get the error:
Setup cannot copy the file appsrv.ms_.
even though the file appsrv.ms_ IS in the directory on my Win2003 Server CD.
I thought perhaps the install program includes the dot (.) at the end of the filename, so I tried copying the appsrv.ms_ file from the CD to my HD and renaming it with a dot at the end, and pointing the install to my HD for that file, but that didn't work.
The appsrv.ms_ on my CD is 6,725 bytes dated 3/25/2003 5:00AM
I was able to install IIS without the appsrv.ms_ file, but seems like I would need to have the application server running for things to work.
How do I get around this install problem?
Can someone tellme exactly what the appsrv.ms_ file does and whether I will need it to run the Symantec Endpoint Protection on ONLY the server?
Is there somewhere I can get a good copy of appsrv.ms_?  (MS website was NO help)Start Free Trial
