Symantec AntiVirus keeps saying Unable to Complete Remediation Tasks

I have a laptop with Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate edition 10.1.7.7000 and it has the current updates.   After I tried to remove a virus and then rebooted it keeps saying Unable to Complete Remediation Tasks.

When I ran the scan it was in safe mode with system restore turned off per the Symantec instructions on cleaning the virus.

Any ideas?

Without knowing the name of the malware, it is hard to be definite - but it could simply be a variant that corrupts a critical file in Symantec, or that Symantec doesn't have a 'fix' for.

You can download (free) MALWAREBYTES (MBAM) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and run it on your computer to get a second look at what is going on.

MBAM is designed to run without interferring with your existing anti-malware applications.

I will give malware bytes a try.  The viruses I was getting are:

Packed.Generic.233
Downloader
Infostealer

"Packed.Generic.233" is showing as 'known' way back in January by Symantec, so unless there is a new variant (or unless Symantec is mis-diagnosing it), that shouldn't cause any problems.
Your other two names are too generic to research.
Let us know how the MBAM goes.

just my 2 cents.

the version you are running has a bug that might cause autoprocted to block security risks. If you can install 10.1.8 that might fix this issue in the feature see

release notes for 10.1.8

I ran malware bytes along with AVG and that seemed to fix the issue just fine.
