Browse All TopicsWe are running Symantec Antivirus (SAV) version 10.2 at my workplace. One computer suddenly started shutting down every day at about 1 p.m. without notice. After some troubleshooting, I decided to disable the SAV scheduled scan (set to run at about 1 p.m. daily) to see if the computer would stop suddenly shutting down. Indeed the computer stopped shutting down once the SAV scan was disabled. I also noticed that in the scan history, the scheduled scans were not showing up at all. The only scan that appeared was the startup automatic quick scan, which would complete successfully.
If I manually start a scan, it runs just fine.
I used a tool to do a full removal of SAV from the computer. Reinstalled version 10.2 (we have hundreds of other users running the same version with no problems). Now when I set up a schedule scan, it still doesn't run, but the computer doesn't shut down. Instead in the scan history, it says that the scheduled scan is delayed.
I have performed a full malware and spyware scan and the system came back clean.
Can anyone tell me how I can get the scheduled scans to work again?
The computer is running on XP.
Thanks!

if you right click on the shortcut there should be in one of the tabs, an option to run in compatibility mode. its usually for running a program designed for an older operating system say running something made for windows 98 on a windows xp machine. even if the program is made for xp, sometimes this helps.
does it make any difference if you launch the program from a command prompt?
Symantec provides a tool called SymRmvScan. This utility will wipe any remenants of scan settings in you registry. Try running that at set up the scan again. You can find out about the tool here:
http://service1.symantec.c
Tech support will set you up with the download. It will remove all scan settings so be sure to annotate what the client is supposed to have before running it.
the link above is for sep products....
Also how did you manage to get 10.2 on a windows xp machine?
that package is for win2k8 and vista clients.

If you open the client and go to help (or somehting like that) get the build number and post it here.

To BillCarlin: I had previously used nonav.exe to remove the previous installs. It seemed to work just fine, but thank you for introducing me to the SymRmvScan.exe.
To jimmymcp02: I apologize. My colleagues had put the SAV software in a folder titled 10.2, but when I actually look at the build, it was 10.1.5. However, I was able to get a hold of 11.4.
I obtained the SymRmvScan.exe from Symantec and ran it to remove the previous version. Then I installed the 11.4 endpoint protection and the schedued scan is now running when it is supposed to and the computer does not shut down.
Thank you!

the user that this is happening too...do they have sufficient rights to that computer locally to run the scan?
