I saw something that I thought was pretty awesome, about a week ago. I unfortunately, didn't get the chance to talk to the person, to get more details about his device.
He had a flash drive that he stuck into the computer, and it began running a full system anti-virus scan. He said the flash drive was not writable (some kind of switch or setting), something about being in CD-mode. Anyhow, nice as that little part was (not really super essential), the part that was super awesome was that he had an anti-virus program stored on the flash drive, and didn't need to install anything on a computer he went to, he just pop in the drive, and scan the computer from his flash drive. Sounds pretty awesome right ?
So..... First question. Has anybody seen this before, where can I buy this ?
Second question, if you haven't seen it before, has anyone heard of it, or how to make it / set it up using your own flash drive ?
Lastly... anyone heard of something similar ? I'm always looking for some cool new gadgets for anti-virus, spam, security, backup, etc. utilities.
Thanks.

He probably had something like what some of the USB drive manufacturers do (like Sandisk) and made a U3 launchpad like application: http://en.wikipedia.org/wi ki/U3
ps/utiliti es/clamwin _portable
Apparently it works by emulating a read-only CD-ROM drive which is probably what he meant by CD mode...
IMy guess is he was using something like U3 and running a portable anti-virus application like ClamWin: http://portableapps.com/ap
There are a whole bunch of applications that are free and portable.
