disable system restore assuming this is windows xp and then get spybot search and destroy as well as hijackthis and also some free tools.

like some utils from

http://www.thefreecountry.com/security/spywareremoval.shtml

That should help you with that.

Also an anti virus scan from avg free unless you have your own anti virus as long as its not symantec.

You may, hopefully, have found a fix from the aforementioned.  But, as always, it helps to know more about your environment and how current you are with WindowUpdate, your chosen Firewalls, Virsucan and updated definition files and so other.  Other helprul links/tools that may add value here::

I've found WindowsDefender very useful, here's that linkhttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx

Still unclear about your environiment, and this will definitely help you in terms of what it all means, and some potential solutions

http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/spyware/default.mspx

Freeware is ALWAYS great, until such time as freeware includes more links to spyware and other intrusions, which is why I choose to stay away from freebes until I can validate and test it.  But as always, your choice.  Many solutions may be helpful, and I do hope you've found yours, but as I said, I test all 'freebees' and am more willing to pay a buck or two rather than 'trusting' my computers/network just 'cause.

Best wishes for a safe, helplful outcome.  I guess, for me, it gets down to .... how safe is the fix; having spent too much time fixing computers/intrusions as a result of risky downloads and free fixes.  But that's just me.  Think how boring life would be were we all the same.

Best wishes,

":0}  Asta

Smitfraudfix removes rogue antivirus 360 (if that's what it is). It also removes all rogues family of zlob trojan etc.

Please download SmitfraudFix:
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by rebooting the computer,
and repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the pc starts. Choose "Safe Mode" from
the options listed.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click
smitfraudfix.cmd

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected
files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the
registry?" answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove
the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the
infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to
replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press
"Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process;
if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Or you could try MalwareBytes.
Download MalwareBytes from either of these locations.
If it won't run, you would need to re-download and rename it before saving to your desktop, or use another pc to download and rename it before installing it to the infected system.
MalwareBytes:

If problem persists, there are other tools like Combofix that we can use also, but good to use it as the last resort, or after we've seen your Hijackthis log etc.

Hopefully my suggestion helps a little bit however my knowledge now with regards to removing spyware / viruses is some what out dated due to not using windows that much ( gave up on it a long time ago ) and now use OS X Leopard.

Have you had any success or made progress here?  There are a number of FREE tools aside from some of the above-mentioned items from Microsoft such as:

Windows Live OneCare safety scanner is a free service designed to help ensure the health of your PC. Check for and remove viruses Get rid of junk on your hard disk Improve your PC's performance.  There are some Top Threats listed here as well on the Virus Front.
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah

I was amazed when doing a Query within the Microsoft site using their Virus Search and query for Spyware AND 360 to find so many results as shown here:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/virusenc/virussearch.htm?ctl00%24ContentPlaceHolderLeft%24VirusSearchUtility%24txtSearch=spyware+AND+360

I also found this to be helpful on similar threats found on a friend's system with similar symptoms, and some potential workarounds and manual removal methods if the spyware removal tools have not yet helped.  Synopsis here, with source link below for more, if desired/needed.
Antivirus 360, which is a clone of Antivirus 2009, is another phony antivirus program. Don't confuse Antivirus 360 with the legitimate Norton Antivirus 360 product. Your PC usually gets infected with Antivirus 360 when you install a video codec that comes with a Trojan, malware or virus. You can also get infected with Antivirus 360 by visiting malicious websites. Once your PC is infected, your screen will be bombarded with security alert pop ups saying that your computer is infected. This scam tactic is done in order to try to trick you into buying the sham Antivirus 360 program.

P.S.  Sorry to hear of the sadness at home, Merete.
