Question

Links on google direct me to different sites, Ashampoo doesn't recognize my CD recorder; What do I do?

Asked by: Hilgy25

Last week Ashampoo 6 stopped recognizing my CD recorder as being compatible and links on google began taking me to random search engines. I have been in contact with Ashampoo techs and done everything they suggested, but nothing worked. They than suggest running Malwarebytes because their could be malware effecting it. I had already done that to try to clear up the google problem.

I have ran Malwarebytes, Ad-AwareAE, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Super Anti Spyware, AVG, and Vipre anti-virus+spyware scans. I found a few things and took the recommended steps to clear them. I have sense run scans and found nothing, yet I am still having the problems.

I am out of ideas and need help! Thanks so much!

BTW I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 on an HP Special Edition 1.2000 laptop. Don't know if any of that was needed or not, but I figured I'd throw it in. =)

I have also had problems for over a year or two now typing inside of boxes for internet explorer, HP help screens, MSN, and a few other programs. The boxed on the screen that I should be able to type in, I can not. Any suggestions with that would be great as well.

THANKS!

The first thing to do, you already did it, clean the machine of malware, but the problem is that the explorer might been damaged in the process, two thing u can do:

1.- Install Internet explorer 8 and see if it repairs the problem
2.- install firefox and use that browser instead

But the best thing you could do is to backup all your files and folders, and reinstall windows on your machine, taht will not only repair the problem but you will also have a newly installed OS, and your machine will work better.  let me know

Hi,

Use Combofix and show us the resulting log.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
(If it doesn't run re-download but rename before saving to your desktop)
You must download it to and run it from your Desktop

Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply by pasting it in the "Code Snippet" or "Attach File" window.
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

If needed, here's the Combofix tutorial which includes the installation of the Recovery Console:

Does regedit works?
If so, also check the registry key below and check the values of "aux, aux1, aux2, aux3, aux4" to make sure there are no values pointing to random filenames(similar to the ones below)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"aux"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\..\\jjmviih.nkt"
"aux4"="c:\docume~1\%username%\LOCALS~1\Temp\..\herlppj.sna"

It's also possible that  it's the case of a patched ws2_32.dll, the combofix log should help us point to the culprit.

Thank you for the quick response! I ran Combofix and it appears to have fixed the problem with google and Ashampoo. Internet Explorer still has issues, and I can't type into any text boxes still... The main problem I asked about seems to be cured. However, I do not know for certain, but I am hopeful!

I attached the log file.

I will be out of town for two days, but will have my laptop with me. I will check up on everything as much as possible and hopefully get it all resolved.

Thanks for the assistance!

Run combofix again using this script.

1. Open Notepad.
2. Now copy/paste the text between the lines below into the Notepad window:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
File::
c:\windows\system32\ashoddac.dll
c:\windows\system32\kirusise.exe
c:\windows\SC38845A3.tmp
c:\documents and settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\prvlcl.dat

RegNull::
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3221632712-1531093754-4251317986-1005\Software\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AddressBook*]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{969D404C-EC53-A9AF-A02B8ED8C194B4B8}\{49CEC6C1-E90A-6C40-7DC9D5345834AD37}\{B3C560DA-C3C9-1298-A5CC78F93CD65657}*]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{99B3C19D-1110-E642-964288AEAF2709C8}\{40C615DA-7F31-9B5B-0DDF6E89F316E212}\{17EBF9A6-E64A-9733-B8ACE6C016E89E7C}*]

------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Save the above as CFScript.txt on your desktop.
4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe. This will start ComboFix again.

I did what you instructed and here are the results of the scan...

Again, thanks for all of the help!

Thanks for the log.
You mentioned, the IE problem is not recent but about a year or so, maybe try running the "sfc /scannow" to check if there are system files that are corrupted and need to be replaced(you need the Windows CD)
Also do some troubleshooting if a software conflict is the caused by disabling IE's Add-ons and disabling your security software(antivirus etc) to check if one of those is the culprit.

Bear in mind also that you only need one realtime protection on antivirus and one on anti-malware so if Sunbelt's Vipre already provides you with anti-malware protection then you need to turn off realtime protection with the other software e.g., Ad-Aware, Window Defender etc.

Also try uninstalling your Toolbar "AskBarDis" or using combofix with the script below.

Run combofix again using this script.
1. Open Notepad.
2. Now copy/paste the text between the lines below into the Notepad window:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
File::
c:\windows\SC38845A3.tmp

Folder::
c:\program files\AskBarDis

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\awtUMCTM]

------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Save the above as CFScript.txt on your desktop.
4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe. This will start ComboFix again.

Also run ATF Cleaner or CCleaner
Download and run ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.
