Question

McAfee AntiSpywar 8.7 and SBS Backup

Asked by: mtxit

I have just installed McAfee Antispyware and now SBS backup is skipping cookie files for all users, e.g:

Warning: Unable to open "C:\Documents and Settings\mtxit\Cookies\mtxit@doubleclick[1].txt" - skipped. Reason: Access is denied.

Warning: Unable to open "E:\User Profiles\Alan\Cookies\alan@192com.112.2o7[1].txt" - skipped.
Reason: Access is denied.

When following the path name the cookies are still there and can be accessed, I have scanned some and no threats can be found.

The rest of the backup is unaffected

ePO4 is installed on the server and this was used to deploy Antispyware.
McAfee recommend KB56525 (https://mysupport.mcafee.com/Eservice/templatepage.aspx?sURL=3)  but this is no help. I cannot identify whether this is an SBS issue or a Antispyware issue. Please help!

mtxit -
Did you create a separate 'Domain Administrator' account for running all of your McAfee applications?
Did you use that account to install the new Anti-Spyware application?

Thanks for your reponse:

No, this was installed using the domain administrator log on credentials.

I have uninstalled it from the Server, but kept it on the workstations, to see if this resolves the issue; we shall see tomorrow!

Evening all...

OK, firstly, why on earth do you want to back up cookies ?

Cookies are simply methods of recording which website/user preferences on each website and should be excluded from backups IMHO

Thanks
Si

Thanks for the pointer,

Cookies being backed up were a legacy setting and this has only become an issue since installing AntiSpyware. These cookie folders have now been excluded from the backup.

However, two users' cookie folders, which sit on the C:\ of the server, cannot be excluded. When attempting to exclude these I am informed that:

"The selected folder is required by the system when restoring your server, or is a subfolder of a folder that is required by the system.

You Cannot exclude a required folder"

Any tips here - if I cannot exclude these then I am going to repeatedly recieve a backup failed report.

Hiya

OK, have you scanned the cookies to eliminate all the nasties ?

Also, what Backup Software are you using ?

Can you create a new directory and move the cookies in to the directory ?

cheers
Simon

All cookies scanned and deleted from affected user accounts just to make sure - since doing this the backup has been running fine.

mtxit,
It appears to me as though the comments from Simon lead you to your solution.
While checking your profile, it appears that you need to review the proper closing procedures for questions you post here.

younghv,

Thanks for the pointer - the cookies had been excluded and the scans had been run prior to Simon's post, hence not clicking it as a solution - if it is the case that I should accept this as a solution to aid the accuracy of EE's db, then I am happy to do so.

by: younghvPosted on 2009-10-05 at 06:38:32ID: 25495061

Thank you for responding.
I was reading the posts and it 'appeared' as though those comments lead to the solution - of course - this would be far from the first time I was wrong.
:)

If (IF), this is a case where comments from an Expert led to a solution - but - you have posted the solution in full, then you do have the option of the "Accept and Award Points" function.

You just click that link in YOUR post and award points to the Expert comment(s) that helped. The minimum you can award is 20, and the maximum is whatever your question was set for when you created it.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but thought I would throw in some pointers anyway.
Thanks.
