How to remove viCrypt extension

Hi,

          I recently discovered that i had the "viCrypt" extension (spyware or viruse) at the end of almost all of my personal files. So .jpg became .jpg.viCrypt, .exe became .exe.viCrypt, .txt became .txt.viCrypt and so on. Of course, Windows cannot find any program to match this file extension. Even if i remove the extension "viCrypt" from  my files and have restore the original name,  it still does not work. Damage has already be done. I found a software (http://www.exquisysltd.com) who is apparently able to remove the "viCrypt" extension at the end of your "infected" files. It decrypt the file to their original state. It work, but it is only a demo version, so we have to pay 29$.  Anyone had this before and knows how to get rid of it without paying for a software?

There's no other fix for it, except that software that you mentioned. You might what to try reinstalling windows but that might not work on getting your files back. I don't think it's a simple rename of the file, it could be actually changing the properties of it. Looks like you'll have to fork over the $29 though. Try contacting them for a discount code.

                        Of course i am aware of that. As a last resort i could format. That won't help me to get my files back, like you said. Before doing it, i was wondering if there is a way of recover the files without losing anything.

This sounds like a scam to me. A viral infection that only one virus removal app can disinfect, this sounds fishey. I would thread very carefully here before handing over my credit card details.

It looks like VICRYPT is a piece of malware designed to make you fork out money to the author for a solution. Symantec have a blog about this and provide a free solution.
