I have a friend's computer here trying to help her out. Her teen age daughter must have allowed a virus or trojan and I can't seem to do anything to erase this problem. I have tried installing Malware Bytes and Ad-Aware and they will not install. I called Dell and asked for support but since they said it is probably a trojan or virus they can't help. She had McAfee on here but it wouldn't work either so I uninstalled it.
Were do I begin trying to eradicate this problem. Sometimes an ad pops up when I'm just working on the internet.
This is a Dell Laptop Inspiron 6400. I am attaching a HiJack This log. I hope it is helpful.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for answering so quickly. I did try to rename the mailware-setup.exe but no luck. It still wouldn't install. I never had any trouble before installing this program.
I'm right now running the super anti spyware program and it has found 4 Adaware Vundo/Varient (Fixed).
I also want to add that I cannot open msconfig nor I'm not able to run the computer is safe mode.
I'll report more later.
Thanks.
Jeanne
Ok.. if still have issue with Msconfig then better to go for combofix.
Before Running combofix try to disable all Antivirus & Antispyware on you pc.
Take time and ready the procedure.

Note:
when your saving combofix to your desktop just rename it to Combo-Fix.
Fix these entries in hijackthis, but an entry or two will respwan, you need to run a tool to rmeove the infection.
As already suggested, use a rename Combofix so long as you can make it run it should take care of it... rename it e.g. CF.exe prior to saving the file to your desktop. We also need to look at the log to make sure it's clean.

Hi all,
All of a sudden I couldn't even get the desktop screen and all I got was a message "A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage. I worked hard to get it up and running but was not successful.
I called Dell and they wouldn't help me at all unless it was fee based. The one guy told me to go to Dell Support and it will help me restore the computer to the factory time.
I'm trying to do this now.
I guess whatever the problem was it really brought down the computer to its knees.
Dell did run a hardware test on the machine but it found no problems and right now I was able to get the Dell screen to restore by press and hold CTRL and F11. Now the computer is in the Dell PC Restore by Symantic.
I don't have much hope in my experience to pull off this restore alone but I'll let you know.
Thanks for the help.
Jeanne
Hi All,
I have reformatted the computer and right now I'm trying to reload the programs.
Hopefully I will have no more problems with whatever was causing the computer to not be able to scan files or do anything to clean off the system.
I don't know how to award the points as I'm had several people help me.
Thank you all.
Jeanne
