MSN messenger sign-in trouble

Starting last night, after changing internet service from home wireless to my university LAN connection, my MSN messenger has not been working. When I sign in, it takes a considerable amount of time for my contact list to load, and once it does, every other operation on my computer freezes and I must restart my computer.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the program and still no progress.
help!
