just to clearify i am referring to recording chat text. not voice.
i know in the newer versions they have included that feature.

msn messenger history on version 4.7.3001
I have the standard msn messenger that came with windows xp. I was wondering does it have an option to record conversations? I do not see anything stating about history, etc.

Oh, my bad. I thought you were asking about live conversation. You want to enable the chat history feature. Info on doing that is here, although you may need to upgrade to Windows Live Messenger to do this:

No. It is too old. Everything that I have seen says that Windows Messenger that comes with Windows XP (4.7) does not support this.

If you want you can try updating to to 5.1 and see if it has Chat History support:

Or you can remove it and use Windows Live Messenger instead:
