No, it's probably not a virus. Unfortunately, this is a form of advertisement some companies engage in. Once when I was looking for a job to make some extra money on the side a guy actually wanted me to send messages to random people trying to lure them onto porn sites by pretending to be a girl. I really wanted to punch him in the face, but unfortunately communications were all via email so I never met him.
Most of the time there are not real people behind these messages though as they are automated. And this is why I stopped using yahoo instant messenger. Apart from getting a new, more obscure screen name and making sure you're not in any public listings, all you can do is block users as they try to send you these messages.

boot into safe mode, install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware update it after installation and scan you full computer and clean any infections found, restart pc and then check.
