Looking for a group chat solution

We are looking for a group chat/im solution for our tech support group to use. They want something that will allow them to  send messages to a group of users and have each user get an alert that there is a message for them. They also want it to log to a searchable database such as sql. Is there an out of the box solution that fits this or does anyone have any suggestions. This will be for a single site and not internet enabled.
