I had this problem too. Please click on 'Show details' and let us know the error code.
Basically, it means that you have an old version of IM. I upgraded to the latest version and my problem was solved.

Browse All TopicsJust download and install the latest version of MSN Live Messsenger (2009). But when i try to login i get error, I attached the pic of that error (login problem.jpg).
Then i try connection trouble shooter in connection status i am getting you are currently not connected to .net messenger service. I also attach the pic of this (connection trouble shooting.jpg).
I try the messenger 2009 on two system but still getting the same error.
I even disable firewall still in vain
But when i try older version of messenger it is working so please guide me in the right direction.
Note (The system is clean, and there is no spyware,adware, malware and virus)

see if you have a "Work offline" check there, if so, remove it
You can also go to TOOLS
Internet Options
Connections
LAN SETTINGS
Remove anything, if it's there
