Is there a good free alternative to microsoft office communicator?  Strictly for internal office use, not AIM, YAHOO, MSN etc...

Are you talking about installing your own server or client software?  Do you need cross-platform clients or just Windows?  What features?  Chat, voice, whiteboard, etc?

Some type of XMPP/Jabber server might work but might not give all the functionality of Office Communicator (eg. its integration with Office applications).  Would work fine for normal stuff.  There are clients with whiteboard support and such (like http://thecoccinella.org/).

The only thing I was looking to do would be setup an internal IM server that will integrate with AD.  A client of mine wanted to just use AOL or Yahoo just seemed like a pain to go with that option.  No need for whiteboard, voice etc, just chat.  Thanks for the responses I will look into both.
