I have a client with which the previous I.T manager purchased a Sendio solution (http://www.sendio.com). It seems to be working fine at this stage. This is a hardware based solution.

Browse All TopicsMy company runs a small Exchange Server for about 20 users that is protected by Trend Micro SMB for anti virus, spam and spyware. More spam/junk mail makes it through than I would like to see. I have the Trend anti spam setting turned up as much as I can. I am considering using some type of sender address verification solution. Does anyone have any experience with any of the softwares or appliances that do SAV? If any other solutions other than SAV are worth mentioning, I would greatly appreciate the advice.

The solution I use with a number of clients that has knocked out most spam is greylisting. I use Vamsoft ORF for greylisting alone and I am lucky to see one spam message a day reach my mailbox. Behind it I also use IMF which soaks up anything that comes through greylisting.
I also don't run any AV on my personal Exchange server - no need as greylisting deals with that as well.

Exchange 2003 comes with naff all spam filters.
It has its own - IMF which is passable.
It can use a blacklist - if you are happy with someone else deciding who you can receive email from.
It also does recipient filtering, but that is hardly a spam filter.
Exchange 2007 offers basically the same. There is no sender verification support.

We've been using them for years to filter spam and viruses prior to the mail entering our Exchange environment. The pricing is very reasonable, support is great, and the service just flat out works.

It would depend on how much time you want to put into this. I just changed over to the symantec mail gateway and added there premium antispam package to it and it works pretty good. One way is was going to try is to block all incoming mail and the set up whitelists for the domains that I really wanted mail from. Now it depends on what your company does if this wil work for you or not. Also this way causes you more headaches but your users will be happy. Other then that without buying something theres not much that can be done that I know of.
