My Outlook Inbox (Office 2003, Windows XP) has been flooded by spam having the following characteristics:
messages are addressed to fake addresses but the correct domain name (mine), such as [fake made-up-name]@[my real domaine name].com. My NAV cleaned up 3 days ago a Trojan Horse called Trojan.Pandex which may have generated this.
Symantec website describes this bug as follow:
Trojan.Pandex is a Trojan horse that sends spam from a remote server and gathers email addresses from the compromised computer.
Curiously on the Symantec website it appears under Level of Risk: Low, whereas the NAV scan put it under Level of RIsk: High.
Does anyone know more about this? Can we really get rid of it? How?
And how come these messages sent to a fake addresse are not returned to the sender and let in?
Also, it seems this goes in the other way as well: I receive messages stating that "my" messages have been blocked by firewalls all over the place. Obviously these are self generated messages. What worries me is that potential customers may block messages with my real domaine name and therefore any genuine messages from us. Anybody has a magic formula how to stop this annoying activity from going on and on?
Your help with this matter is much appreciated.
Regards,
Dan LP
