Question

Need Spam to check new Spam Filter

Asked by: Shylok

Am looking for a couple websites or such that would send spam to my domain/email address to test the functionality of a Spam filter.  Ideally would have a number of different tests and styles.

Have installed Maia Mailguard 1.02a.  It's a front end for Clamav/Spam Assassin and a few other utils.  Would like to test it.  The domain I'm using doesn't actually have any spam coming to it.

I already tried the following which seemed to pass most of the tests since it passed SFF etc. So it wasn't of much use really.

Thanks much!

I would not like to promote any spammers or give glory to them, so my suggestion would be to forward your gmail or hotmail account's emails to your intended email system for its real test. My gmail gets about 15-20 emails everyday which are in spam folder, so that might help.

Hrm.  I'm not sure if Gmail will forward the spam, on a quick check none of the accounts I have that are forwarded in gmail have fw'd spam but they're not getting any either.  I confirmed that my hotmail isn't forwarding it to my gmail.

I wasn't exactly looking for a spammer.  But a site that'll send spam for a test of ones spam filter.

If your MX records are published and pointing to you and  you are able to receive mail, it won't be long before you start to receive spam without asking for it.

Not aware of any sites where you can sign yourself up to receive spam and I would not recommend it either.

It's just a case of sitting back and waiting.

I was at a technology show yesterday and one of the exhibitors Zero Spam had a test util to test your mail server and Spam firewall.  Was happy to see this test domain coming up green for all his tests.  Turns out there's a number of ISP's who use Maia Mailguard 1.02a and a whole slew of em who run similar distro's of SpamAssassin, Clam AV, etc.   It would have been nice to find other resources but those two are the only ones I've run into so far.
