Question

Eudora.exe Access Violation at ADVAPI32.DLL ??

Asked by: JReam

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?   When I click on Eudora.exe, hourglass for 1/2 second, then nothing. I'v been trying to fix this for 2 days now.  Help!

See last 2 lines from the Depandancy Walker results.  My PC is like the other people in my office, I'm the only one broke.  Just started happening yesterday.  I'm almost positive I didn't do anything to the PC to make it happen.  SInce it started, I've tried everything to fix it, such as new virgin innstall of Eudora 7 on my PC, reapplying XP XP2, getting the latest WU, etc.     Something is amuch with ADVAPI32.DLL.  I've compared the file to other PC, it's identical.  I'm thinking about the Imagehlp.DLL file also just above the end... my buddy's PC seems to used a similar file, IMM32.DLL, maybe Imagehlp.dll is too slow for impatient Eudora...

Here's a helpful link

Basically, it suggests looking in the XP Event Center to see what has happened.

But, try turning off  "use microsoft viewer for images"

Have you tried to start a completely clean Eudora i.e. NOT using your history
Create a dummy directory (below shown in C:) called eudoratemp or something.
Assuming Eudora is in its normal place, create a shortcut with the following execution line in it.

"C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe"  "C:\eudoratemp"  "C:\eudoratemp\dummy.ini"

This will start a completely clean eudora. i.e. none of your history. See if that starts up.
If the problem is fixed already, can you ask to close the question.

Hello Sank2 -
As I wrote in the original question, I tried the virgin Eudora installation, along with many other trial-n-error attempts to fix.   I finally gave up on Eudora, reluctently.  After spending 3 or 4 days dedicated to getting my Eudora to work (that's 8 hour days, I'm a 20 year computer programmer), I was not able to come up with a solution or cause or resolution.   Definitely related to DLL incompatabilities, I think related to Images. I keep SPs and WUs uptodate, one of these likely related.    I tried everything short of reformatting.

I switched to Outlook 2003, which I tell you know wholeheartedly is a terrible program.  We we're spoiled with Eudora.  But Eudora is now officially now a dead-end product, without support, or company.  If you rely on email for your business and livelyhood, say goodbye to Eudora soon.   My time came suddenly due to Eudora failure as described here.

I figured I'd keep this Question open for the benefit of the next unfortunate person with a similar experence of sudden Eudora deadend.
