Question

Evolution Mail connecting to Exchange 2007

Asked by: GTPD22

I am trying to get evolution mail that comes with Ubuntu 8.04 connected to my Exchange 2007 server. I have MAPI enabled on my exchange box but do not want to connect this way due to the calendar and address box issues. When I put in the OWA address when trying to setup evolution, it returns an error that it can not locate the server. I know this is the correct address as I can copy and paste it into firefox and it asks for my credentials and after supplying them I successfully log in. Also, I can successfully connect to the mail server via IMAP and POP, but will not run it this way.

There is a clear howto on the italiana ubuntu wiki here: http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/InternetRete/Messaggistica/Evolution/Exchange

It is quite straight-forward, but if you need some translation, let me know. The trick is to select "Microsoft Exchange" as the server type in the second figure.

I am already setting it up the way that page shows. The problem is I can not authenticate with my server. I get an error of "selected server is not found". I know my servers owa address and when I put it in IE or FF, I log in with no problems.

It may be a username problem. There are several ways that you can provide a user name for to OWA:
username@domain.name.com
domainname\username
username

Windows is case insensitive for the username however you may want to try putting the domain name in uppercase if you still have problems.
Have you checked your firewall settings on both the client system and the Exchange 2003 system?
Which port are you using for OWA?

I have tried domain\user, just username. etc.etc. I am unsure of what port I am using but, I am trying to connect from inside my domain. Again, I can successfully connect to the OWA from IE or FF so I know my credentials are correct. Also it is Exchange 2007, not 2003. Also, outlook 2007 connects just fine. Thanks

IE and Firefox connect to OWA on port 80. It could be a chance to try also Evolution on port 80.

Sometimes https is used... try https://yourexchange.server.com
And the user@domain username variety is what we use; if you haven't tried that, do.

Hello,
Evolution-exchange connector only support win2k3 exchange.
For exchange 2007 and 2010, it will not work because microsoft has changed the OWA.

any how to get things working just download a tool from sorgeforge.net called davmail and run it, it will connect to your exchange, and then configure your evo or whatever client u like to connect to that tool on localhost. and Voila things are working :)
