Hello vboomer,

What operating system are you using?  Netscape emails are stored in one of these locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\
C:\Windows\Profiles\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\
C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\

It is a hidden folder, so you have to unhide hidden folders to see it.  In Windows XP, open Windows Explorer or any folder.  Click on Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders".  If you want to see system files as well, unclick Hide protected operating system files.   Click OK.

Hope this helps!

Actually this is what I was looking for but it forwarded me to the next stumbling block.  When I was going to restore the backup, I found all the mail still there and intact.  But Netscape does not recognize that it is there.???

PS I am using XP pro.

Did you copy the files on a CD?  Make sure the folders and files are not write protected.  Right click on a file and select Properties. Make sure Read Only is not selected.

Is your version of Netscape same as the version of Netscape that created the files?

Since this isn't as simple as I hoped, I'll give you the verbose story which may hopefully yield a clue.
My wife was browsing the internet with Firefox, when Firefox froze.  She closed the program and proceeded with I.E.  She later tried to open Firefox again and couldn't because "Firefox is already running"  She rebooted and when Netscape Mail 7.2 (called from the start menu) opened, there was no mail in either inbox or outbox.  We uninstalled Netscape 7.2 and reinstalled Netscape 7.2 with no change.  I assumed that the mail was lost so using her previous hard drive (functioning but with a corrupted XP OS) in a USB box attempted to replace her email.  I couldn't find it and that is when you came in.  With the hidden folder information I located her old email in her old drive and also in her current drive.  So no the files were not copied to a CD and the Netscape version is the same.  I did check the "read only" suggestion and Yes Read Only is checked for the folders and not the files.  I unchecked th Read Only and when I verify, it is again rechecked.  I have unchecked  the Read Only several times and it will not stick.  End of current story. Thanks for you help so far.

I'm not very concerned with the old hard drive as her current mail is still on her current drive, just not accessible.  I did uncheck simple file sharing, and verified that she is ownership with full administrative rights.  It goes thru the motions of unchecking "read only" but reverts back. Interestingly, her computer does not have a logon screen.  It boots bypassing the screen.  She is the only account (no password) with adminstrative rights.  My three XPs all have logon screens even tho I'm the only user.

Are there any more suggestions how to access the email?  Or have we exhausted all avenues?

I installed thunderbird, transferred the netscape mail to the thunderbird folder, and thunderbird was able to read the mail.

vboomer, that is a good workaround.  Thunderbird and Netscape Mail use similar format.
