Do i need to open up port 80 for that.

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-10 at 23:05:49ID: 18887689

I think i have to get SSL certificates to make it work but how can i generate certificates from exchange 2007.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-10 at 23:33:37ID: 18887765

Exchange 2007 should have generated its own SSL certificate.

You need to ensure that you have TCP port 443 forwarded to the server, then just try browsing to https://yourserver.domain.com/owa

Assuming you have setup the server right, that should do it.  If not, then we will need to do more work on it.

Thanks a lot for your early response, I typed in https://www.ec3global.com/owa, and it showed me that page cannot be found (i.e, HTTP 404 error), before it was giving me an error that i dont have a secure certificate to view this page but afterwards i splited the DNS, and created a host A record which is pointing to the external IP address of the website which is 203.110.152.58 (correct me if iam wrong i got this IP address by pinging www.ec3global.com), and the other thing i have done is under IIS Default website properties--> IP address--> i have changed that to the IP address for the server instead of "All unassigned".

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:07:16ID: 18887826

So let know the configuration that i have done is wright or not, and what else needs to be done.Thanks.

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:09:25ID: 18887833

I have been given time till tomorrow so i am thinking to deploy outlook anywhere.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:09:39ID: 18887835

You are going to the wrong site;

You want to go to the external IP of the exchange server, not the website -> 125.7.43.44

Also, you should leave it at all unassigned.

get OWA working first - otherwise you have no hope of getting Outlook Anywhere working

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:17:31ID: 18887858

On the server where exchange 2007 is installed i typed in https://ec3.ec3global.local/owa, it showed me that "there is a problem with website security certificate" i pressed on "continue to this website (not reccommended)", it asked me for my username and password and afterwards i was able to see my outlook, but that i was locally how i can make it live means externally accessible.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:21:27ID: 18887864

You need to make sure that tcp port 443 is forwarded to that server from the outside world - you make this change on your firewall

then, your users will be able to go to https://mail.ec3global.com/owa

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:23:48ID: 18887871

125.7.43.44 is the mail IP address for exchange, and i have requested my ISP to open up the port 80 for this IP address. So should i ask him not to do that, and secondly is there a link which i can follow to make owa working.Thanks.

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:29:52ID: 18887885

443 is the tcp port or SSL port, because when i requested to open up the port 80 on 125.7.43.44 i have given 443 as my SSL port.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:32:29ID: 18887893

There is not point asking for port 80 to be opened, so yes, cancel that request.

OWA is already working, you are having firewall problems, not exchange problems

your mail server is not answering on port 443, so there is something not right - if you need to request that port 80 be opened, I would ask the same people to open 443 instead

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:38:17ID: 18887910

So correct me if i am wrong, i am going to make a request to my ISP to open up the port 443, on IP address 125.7.43.44 for mail.ec3global.com.
And i dont i have provide any SSL port to them.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 00:49:49ID: 18887952

>>And i dont i have provide any SSL port to them

443 is the SSL port - other than that you have it all right

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 01:02:27ID: 18888011

hmmm.Ok. So 443 is the  SSL port as well as the mail port where its going to communicate with outside world.

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 01:27:21ID: 18888085

right, or totally wrong.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 03:30:40ID: 18888480

the mail port is 25 - all these ports are inbound

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 04:00:11ID: 18888600

Regarding the Dns spliting which i have mentioned earlier ( I have splited the DNS,  created a host A record which is pointing to the external IP address of the website 203.110.152.58), now i have two forward lookup zones one is pointing to ec3global.local and the other is to ec3global.com.
Just wondering should i take out ec3global.com zone or leave it there

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 04:16:41ID: 18888652

I wouldn't worry about it for now - if it isn't working by IP, then fixing up DNS isn't going to matter

by: usmansultanPosted on 2007-04-11 at 06:27:42ID: 18889374

So that means  i dont have to do anything now on exchange, once my ISP has opened up the port 443 i should be OK.

by: redseatechnologiesPosted on 2007-04-11 at 06:42:57ID: 18889493

correct
