IN Office 2007 Options, under "Populsr" it says my Language is French.
Nonetheless, under the Proofing options, "when correcting spelling in Microsoft programs" it shows "French modes".
So, I am still stuck.

On th old PC, we used Office 2003, We got a new PC and used the File and Settings Transfer Wizard to move everythng over (it generally worked well).
There is a problem with Spelling in Outlook Express. It is recognizing words that we have added.
When you go to Options -> Spelling -> Language, it is set on French. When click the down-arrow to change the language, there are no other choices (only French).
I don't know if it is relevant, but when you click the Edit Custom Dictionary button (to the right of language) a window opens called CUSTOM.DIC that shows all my added words.
So, to summarize my question: How do I tell OE to use English and not French as my language?
Thank you

My mistake. Popular says it is English U.S.
I am not surprised to see this problem is widespread...

YES!
I forgot to post this.
THere is an article (can't find it now) wherein Microsoft clearly states that "when you install Office 2007, spelling stops working in OE for 3 languages (English and 2 others). I apologize for not posting this sooner.
Again: Microsoft knows about this problem. They acknowledge it.
thank you
DFlaschen,
Yes, Office 2007 broke the spell check on Outlook Express. Outlook 2007 is designed for Vista, which has Windows Mail and its own spell checker.
You can use a spell checker for OE

You can solve this issue by installing a 3rd party spell checker "http://www.snapfiles.com/
After installing the software, close OE and open it again and the problem will be solved.

Greetings DFlaschen !
OE uses the spell checker from MS Word. Go to MS Word option menu and set the language to English.
Best wishes, war1
