Hi,
one of my customers has encountered a weird problem - just all of the suddena gap occured in SENT MAIL folder in his Outlook Express (I think it is version 6, like 2003).
There are 1200 items in Sent Mail folder, showing all sent items from past 4 weeks, then there is a gap with NO SENT MAIL until 19th Feb. 2009, and from there again all sent mail is shown for past 3 years.
I checked all filters, reset the default VIEW, but nothing helped. 6 months of sent mails vanished.
I also exported all sent items to MS Outlook, but there is also the same gap present.
Another try was using DBrepair utility, but still no effect - only existing mails are shown, and there is still 6-months gap there present.
Any idea?

- Yes, such a mess with 3 years of arfchive in Sent Items folder means trouble, when talking MS language :)
- Sent Items.dbx is aprox. 900 MB
- NO, not any *(1) or *(2) files in Outlook profile folder
- TO DO: I'll look for *.bak files in Recycle Bin
- YES, I backed up immidiatelly all *.dbx files as I was called to resolve the problem
- TO DO: I'll also look for any type of backup, if it exists (but I doubt very much)

It would be great if you have a backed up "Sent Items.dbx" file that was created after the period where the messages are missing, but not so recent as to possibly have messages missing from it.
If so, there are a number of programs that can be used to open the *.dbx file and extract messages as *.eml files that can be dragged and dropped back into the Outlook Express "Sent Items" folder.
It may actually be worth trying some of these programs on another copy of the existing "Sent Items.dbx". You never know, the messages may still be there, but just not showing in Outlook Express due to some minor corruption of the *.dbx file that (maybe) one of these programs will not be troubled by.

1200 messages spanning 3 years worth of correspondence left lying in the Sent Items folder is asking for trouble.
How big is the "Sent Items.dbx" file in the user's Store Folder?
Any "Sent Items(2).dbx" files in there?
Are there any *.bak files in the Recycle Bin?
I assume that you have immediately backed up the *.DBX files that are currently in the user's Store Folder?
Are there any backup images of the hard drive, or other backups of any sort that cover the affected period?
