Hi Experts
Avast Home version 4.8.1169.0.
Outlook Express 6 with Windows XP Home SP2 and Pro P2.
Avast does not scan incoming or outgoing messages where an OE account (eg. googlemail or Yahoo Plus) has to be configured to use SSL Ports:
smtp: Port 465
pop3: Port 995
If I open the "On Access Protection Control" dialog and configure the "Internet Mail" provider, there is a tab named "Redirect" as shown in the attached screenshot.
The description, and also some suggestions in the Avast discussion groups, implies that you can add a comma and then the additional Port in each of the POP and SMTP fields. I have tried endless permutations of this, but with anything other than the standard ports 25 and 110 in those fields Outlook Express hangs on the "Securing..." part of the check for new messages and eventually errors out as follows:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Google Mail', Server: 'pop.googlemail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Extending the Time Out to maximum doesn't help, so OE is clearly just hanging while trying to log in using the SSL Ports.
Does anyone know how to configure Avast Home to use SSL ports without hanging Outlook Express indefinitely on the "Securing..." stage?
Thanks
Bill
