The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Using Netscape email client with MSN DSL

Asked by conick in Email Clients

I recently (yesterday) changed from the soon-to-be-defunct Excite@Home cable to MSN DSL.

I'm currently using IE6 for browsing, but I use Netscape 6.2 for my email client (on Win2K). Unfortunately, I can't seem to configure Netscape to "swing successfully" with the MSN POP3 server. The incoming and outgoing email server addresses are correct. I am able to send and receive email from Outlook2K using the same servers. I called MSN support and of course they couldn't help me because they don't support Netscape. The tech said that she thought Netscape worked, but couldn't transfer me to anyone who knew for sure. She finally gave me the Netscape tech support number. A charge is required for Netscape support, so I thought I would ask around here first.

The message I get back from the server when I try to retreive email is:

The mail server responded: 5.7.3 Due to a recent security enhancement, changes to your email client configuration are required. Please go to http://supportservices.msn.com/us/smtptool/default.asp for complete information about the steps to make these quick changes...

When I go to the web site mentioned, it provides information how to upgrade the MS email clients (Express, Outlook, etc). No information is given for thirdparty clients. I haven't been able to find anything on Netscape's site either.

Anyone have any information or comments?
