Question

Pegasus Mail queueing problem

Asked by: tandy

Hi,

I am having a problem with my Pegasus mail queue Manager.
It constantly keeps putting a blank message template in the que.

Even if the entry is deleted it just recreates itself automatically.
I have no idea what process is doing this. The message is always blank.
It has no originator or recipient. If for some reason my mail is stalled(for a valid
reason such as a network problem) Pegasus places it in the que manger. The next
time the network is up and running, pegasus tries to send the valid messages(as it should)
buit crashes when it comes to the blank message. I have to shut down pegasus and go back in and delete the blank message. Then I send the mail in the que. However, soon as it is done some process again places an empty blank message back in the que.

Does anybody have any idea what is causing this and how I can make Pegasus stop
placing this unwanted blank message into my que manager...

Thanks,

Tandy

You may want to take a look at what else is running on the computer at this time. Check for spyware and viruses. Also, if you have enabled automatic mail check, verify that you have no rule set that involves sending messages when triggered.

Delete all *PMW and *.PMX files.

*.PMW  WinPMail v2.0+ This messages are also referred to as "outgoing messages in draft format". Those files can be edited/reviewed using the File | Review queued mail menu entry.
*.PMX WinPMail v2.0+ These files are "ready to sent". Also called "outgoing messages in final form". The headers are added, addresses are expanded. Those messages cannot be edited anymore but still can be viewed and/or deleted using the File | Review queued mail menu entry.

This should remove ALL queued messages from Pegasus since you are deleting the actual files that it thinks it needs to send. I don't believe any other program uses these extensions but to be safe, only delete the ones found in the pegasus install folder.

Thank you deopsys for the information about the mail queing in pegasus.
It was indeed one of the files you mentioned that caused the problem.
When did a search in the active directory it turned up 1 file named something
like "xld123rc.pmx". When I opened it in notepad it showed it to be empty.

When I deleted this file the queueing problem was solved. I will accept your
answer as is, but if you can, can you tell me what you would have to do to
create such a file?  The reason I ask is to my knowledge I have not done so
intentionally, so by knowing the procedure I can be more careful not to do it again
inadvertantly. I will wait a bit for a response because If I acccept the answer now
it will close the question. This last part I think will make for a more complete response
for anyone searching the PAQ..

Thanks for the great response, it was right on the money...problem solved!

mmmmm I honestly dont think you did anything to create the file. More than likely the program may have tryed to queue something and messed up, creating a blank file. I apologize for not having a specific answer but I think the program just glitched.

It seems Pegasus must create these files internally as needed I assume. That is why I could not manually create such an entry from within the menu. I always have my mail set to "Send Mail Imediatley" so normally there is no queueing of the final copies unless of course there is an internal network problem.
This is what must have happened I suppose and for some reason pegasus created  a blank copy of
a file it saaumed was ready to send. Because it had no recipient it would crash the send mail procedure,
thereby, I assume, marking itself as not sent succesfully so the pmx file would not be removed. Deleteing
from the que did not matter , again I assume , as Pegasus must check the pmx files to see what messages it will automatically load into the que for sending. It was a dog chasing its tail procedure that
just kept looping.  Deleting the file manually stopped the process. Thanks again for the solution.
