Outlook Express on Network Location

My friend has a Windows XP Pro computer. One of the folders is shared via Simple File Sharing, and it contains e-mail. When Outlook Express's store is pointed to the e-mail folder via the "c:\...\e-mail" path, everything works fine, but when the store folder is pointed to "\\computer\..\e-mail", OE shows the following message when switching identities: "The folder is currently in use by Outlook Express or by another application." Also, OE is unable to save any messages via the network path.

Ideas?

The above link states:

IMPORTANT: Changing the location of the mail store to a mapped or removable drive is not supported by Microsoft.

Ok, I don't mind treading on ice. If I understand this correctly, however, I should still be able to use it remotely. Currently I'm able to view the e-mails, but I'm simply unable to modify anything.

The above link shows that if you are using XP with SP2, it's not going to work. If you are using SP1 then you should be able to use the \\<computername\<sharename> to get it to work.
