At least when I do a "Test E-mail autoconfiguration" Everything seems to be ok, but for the OOF the internal servername is used instead of the external name? Is this correct? And what else could be wrong?

Ok, this is a new feature and can be annoying.... No matter how you configure the client as MAPI or Outlook Anywhere Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 uses a new feature called autodiscovery. There are a number of items OOF,OAB, availablity etc.... that use service. Depending on your configuration domain joined or not will depend on how items are accessed.
There are a number of locations that urls need to be set
get-autodiscovevirtualdire
get-webservicesvirtualdire
get-clientaccessserver (look for autodiscover internal uri)

Setting up autodiscover and the availability is not a highly publicized item however its mandatory it your are running Outlook 2007 on your network.
Outlook 2007 no longer uses public folders to pull free/busy and any configuration. Outlook makes calles to the autodiscover which tells the client where it can putll information from like free/busy , OFF, etcl....
OK OOF problem is solved...
With the help from SM PSS we found it. We used this link

OAB problem also solved
Hi
Just to add my two penneth worth.
I have all my users surfing through Squid Proxy. If you remove the user from using the proxy the Out of Office works, so does the Test Configuration from the outlook icon. MY Exch 2007 server is almost default out of the box with 50 mailboxes on. It has had no tweaks with regards to Autodiscovery service.
I assume 8 out of 10 times this will be the problem.
Therefore i added into the Internet Proxy Settings via group policy the following entry:
LAN Settings > Advanced > Exceptions > *CTTG3* as CTTG3 is the servername of my Exch2007 server.
This has fixed the problem for ALL users in my ExchOrg.
Regards
Anthony
This may not apply to the OP's original problem, but I was having the same issue, but with just my external Outlook 2007 users. Connecting via HTTP/RPC. When I would do the "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration..." on the remote PC, it would fail connecting to the path: https://autodiscover.domai

What happens if you view the OOF through OWA (webmail)?
