Outlook Forwarding rules not working on External Email Account

I am running Outlook XP sp3.0, With Exchange 2003 Server SP.2.0
I have create a rules to forward all my mails to External email Account however this doesen't seems to be working and no error message recieved (tried on few different external accounts).
External email address were added in "Contact" in Active Directory.
Forwardings to Internal recipients seems to be working fine.
Is there anything in Outlook or Exchange needs tweaking so it can forward to external source?

This is working perfectly fine in my case.
Did you mention the correct address for the following?
Apply this rule after the message arrives from "the condition........" and
forward it to people of distribution list "your external email address".
Are you using Outlook or Exchange to forward your emails? Don't think you can do so (forward externally) in Outlook but you canin Exchange.

I think what you can do is to configure in Exchange to forward your email to this Contact.

You have an user account - user1@yourcompany.com
You have an Contact in AD with an external SMTP address - user1@externalemail.com
In user1 user account properties you forward all email to this Contact (you can choose to send a copy to your local account)
You just need to create a rule using outlook client, which I already gave in my previous comment and this works fine.

I'm having the same problem.  Messages forwarded using an Outlook rule go to internal users but not external (even those defined in the AD).  I cannot find the setting in Exchange Manager to toggle the default.  Can you provide a bit more detail on where to locate the checkbox?  I'd realy like a solution that doesn't require every possible forwarded address to be part of the AD.  I'd like the users to be able to manage themselves at the Outlook client level.  Is that possible?  Thanks, Terry
I can't find this setting in ESM. Can someone please help me find the setting so that users can configure forwarding email as an Outlook rule. However, I also think there are security risks involved. Can this be configured on an individual basis?

Thanks,
David
richeyd,

Open System manager -> Global settings -> Internet mail formats -> Properties of default -> advanced tab.
Enable 'Allow automatic forward".
betarc is right.

Open System Manager -> Global Settings -> Internet Mail Formats -> Enter the properties of Default -> Advanced tab.
Enable "Allow Automatic Forward".
I'd like comment that the only way I could get it to work for the above issue is the following.

Follow the instructions to configure the ESM in the above post.  You have to have the "allow atomatic forward" ticked.  In exchange, or else it will not work.

Creat the blank rule on the clients Outlook and choose "sent only to me" and "when my name is in the to or cc box".

Then choose" forward to people in distribution list" and in the to: field put in your external address. ie "suckem@suckemgood.net".  :) no offense.

The most important one is the "sent to me only" option.  Cheerz.
