Get IMAP working for IPHONE in Exchange 03 environment

I need to get IMAP working for some email clients in Exchange 2003, mainly the IPHONE.  We have a front end backend scenerio with the backend running on a cluster.  All mail is Exchange 03 and servers are Server 03.

Have you tried configuring one of the phones yet?  You need to make sure that port 143 is open on your firewall, and that the IMAP service is actually running at the server end.

I tried to configure the phone but it says it cant connect.  I am looking for specific directions on the server side.  I have never done the setup and dont know the exact procedure.
Okay, first thing I would check is the Services list on the server.  Look for something like Microsoft Exchange Server IMAP4, and make sure that it is Started.  Make sure that the startup type is set to Automatic.
Done.
Now does this have to be running on the front end server as well as the back end server?

No go.  I am going to have to call MS on this one.  Thanks
Make sure that your IMAP Virtual Server is running as well.  Even though the service might be running, the virtual server could be stopped.  In ESM go to ADMINISTRATIVE GROUPS > FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP > SERVERS > SERVERNAME > PROTOCOLS > IMAP.  Make sure the DEFAULT IMAP4 VIRTUAL SERVER doesn't have an 'X' through it.
