Question

Quarter-hour appointments in Outlook not showing correct time

Asked by: caleyj

Outlook 2003, fully patched.  Windows 2003 Pro, full patched.  Exchange 2003.

On a handful of desktops, Outlook does not get calendar appointments set for odd times (like 2:15pm) in the correct time slot.  If I send an appointment for 2:15pm, it is received looking like it is for 2:30pm.  This only happens on some Outlook clients.... other Outlook clients see the appointment at the correct time.

All testing in OWA has shown the correct times, so I don't think this is a server-related issue.  Everything seems to be pointing to something with these particular Outlook clients.  It also seems to be a problem on the receiving end.... when I send an appointment through OWA, it'll show up fine in one Outlook client, and wrong in another.

Right now the time scale on the calendar is set to 30 minutes.  You need to change this to show the time slots in 15 minute increments.
1) Right click on the calendar and choose Customize Current View
2) Choose Other Settings
3) Change the Time Scale to 15 minutes and click OK twice to close out.

that should take care of it for you.

Okay... I changed the Time Scale to 15 minutes, but the appointments are still showing up in the wrong slot.  I did a test appointment  for 4:15pm today, and it's showing on the invite in this Outlook client as an appointment for 4:30pm.   On another Outlook client, it shows up correctly.  Very weird...   Any other suggestions?

This is for appointments that he is creating or those that you are inviting him to from appointments you create on your calendar?

This is for invites from other mailboxes.  For instance, Amy creates a calendar invite for 2:15pm and invites Roger to it.  If Roger logs into OWA and views the invite, it shows that it is for 2:15pm and puts it correctly on the calendar.  If Roger logs into Outlook on his computer and views the invite, it shows that it's for 2:30pm and puts it in that time slot in the calendar.    If Amy opens Roger's mailbox in Outlook on her computer and views the appointment, it shows up as 2:15.  So, given that, I think it's something on Roger's computer that is causing the problem, and I'm just trying to figure out what that is.  I've already had him run updates, check the time/timezone, and can't figure out why it's happening.

I'm just trying to be sure here, but if Roger opens the appt in Outlook it shows it as starting at 2:30 instead of 2:15?  Or is this just when he views the appt in the Weekly view and not actually opening the appt?

If the time is stll displaying incorrectly try removing Roger's Outlook profile and recreate it.

Yes, if Roger open the appointment, it shows it at 2:30.  In fact, the invite itself shows 2:30.  There is no indication anywhere that the appointment was originally set for 2:15.

I'll have him try to remove his Outlook profile and recreate it... that's been known to fix strange issues.  I've been supporting Exchange/Outlook for a long time, and I've never run into such an issue before.  Hopefully the new profile will work... I'll let you know.
