The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Mail Filters change when copied to different computer

Asked by lepirtle in Thunderbird Email Client

Tags: Mozilla Thunderbird v2.0.0.23

I have a Message Filters that I regularly use and update on my desktop computer. The various filters all do the same thing, moving messages to a specific folder, named "1Accept", that I created beneath one of my user accounts. Whenever I travel I copy that msgFilterRules.dat to my portable computer so that I can continue to use that same filter. This has been working perfectly for several years.

I just purchased a new portable computer on which I copied the msgFilterRules.dat. But on this computer, when I look at the Filter Rules, the "Perform these actions: 'Move Message to' " is not the same folder, "1Accept", to which my filter is actually written, but instead, it changes itself to the top-level folder. I can, manually, use the drop-down to change the "move to" folder, but doing this for all 30 of my filters is not the most efficient use of my time every time I want to copy the updated file from my desktop to my portable. What puzzles me is that this procedure has been working fine for years on my other portable computer. Note that all the mail accounts and folders are named the same and have the same structure on all 3 computers.

I have opened each of the two msgFilterRules.dat files, the desktop file and the file that I copied to my portable, and both read exactly the same, for example one of the filters reads:
name="0-9"
enabled="yes"
type="1"
action="Move to folder"
actionValue="mailbox://lep@lepirtle.com/1Accept"
condition="OR (subject,contains,8479100360)"

I have spent about 4 hours trying different things like removing my profiles, creating new, bogus account names, and I finally deleted Thunderbird, deleted all related folders, then re-installed Thunderbird. But still the same problem: the "Perform these actions: 'Move Message to' " is somehow changed from "1Accept" which I have specified on my desktop computer. See below "orig" and "newcomputer" screen shots.

Might someone help me "keep" the move message to folder the same on this computer as on my other two?

All computers are Windows XP with the same Thunderbird v2.0.0.23.

Thanks.
