funnymanmike,
Im confused.  The image called cantview shows MANY items from Today.  When the Date simply shows a Time, that is because the Time is for the Current date.

Your canview image shows dates from 9/1/2009, but I see you have at least 3 Sent Folders.   I also can't tell how you have your View Options set up.  When in the Sent folder you are looking at, make sure you have View->Threads->All is set and View->Sort by-> is set to Unthreaded.

Hope that helps.

mtz1of4:

your are confused

i cannot see the content of the newer sent items

ie i send you a email, and in the body i say, hey lets have a bbq this weekend

well when i check my sent items folder, i can see indeed i did send you items, but i cannot view what i said, preview won't show, and opening won't show.

by: mtz1of4Posted on 2009-09-06 at 15:53:34ID: 25271922

oh, that is interesting.

One quick check for me.

Go to Tools->Account Settings->Copies & Folders.
By any chance has that been changed to where it is NOT making a copy to the Sent folder?

by: funnymanmikePosted on 2009-09-06 at 19:54:35ID: 25272527

nope no changes

if i send a email to another email address, the item show sup in my sent items.

also as of today it seems that new items in fact do show their content

however i found some emails that show up in my sent items, i cannot view them, print them, or save them as text as they show up as blank. However if i view source i can see there stuff in there.

would avg be part of the problem?

by: mtz1of4Posted on 2009-09-07 at 06:17:32ID: 25274857

That's your Source?

Yes, definitely AVG COULD be part of the problem, but are you doing anything else to your Sent mail like encrypting?
The ViewSource jpg looks more like a corrupted file than an email.  When Composing an email, what happens when you change the Options->Format-> to Plain Text?

Are you forwarding these emails or creating new ones? Are there attachments in these emails?  Are these html emails or plain text?

If you compared a viewsource to an older email you should see the correct format.

Have you made any changes recently, like adding an add-on or getting any virus warnings?

What happens when you open Thunderbird in it's Safe Mode? By going to Start->All Programs->Mozilla Thunderbird->and selecting "Mozilla Thunderbird (Safe Mode)"
this starts thunderbird with no add-ons. Perhaps we can pinpoint your issue.

You could also just create a New profile and see what happens, but that's one of the last steps.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Thunderbird

Since you brought up AVG, you might as well check your settings for Tools->Options->Security->AntiVirus and see if you have that set up, although it says Incoming email, with no mention of outgoing.

@mtz1of4:

No Encrypting
When i save it as a txt file, it ends up blank

Creating new emails, unsure about attachments or images

i'll try in safemode

just can't create a new profile

i'll check avg and get back to you

thanks

A list of any Add-ons (extensions) you have installed might help.

Is the ViewSource of older emails like the above? or are they correct?
Do they magically appear correct after two days, by any chance?

sorry for ignoring this for a while, life's been pretty busy.

no extensions

no, view source of older emails are fine.
for some reason now only a handful of emails are affected
Computer is rebooted once a week.

By any chance, would these outgoing emails be sent using different smtp servers? or IMAP servers?
Try right clicking on the Sent folder you are having problems with and selecting Compact folders.
Also right click on it, select Properties and go to the Retention Policy tab and make sure Always Delete Read Messages is not checked.

by: funnymanmikePosted on 2009-09-18 at 09:42:39ID: 25367711

nope, the smtp settings of the local carrier.

compacting the folders was the first thing i did

allways delete read mesages is not checked

thanks for your help, i think it just took a while for the archive process to kick in, and once that was done the emails slowly became readable again.
