Thunderbird Status Marking Error

Tags: Thunderbird with Windows 7

Since installing Windows 7 RTM a couple months ago I've had a minor-but-irritating issue with Thunderbird.    Just curioius if anyone else has seen this and knows of a solution.

I have my e-mails organized in a fairly extensive set of folders; and many are automatically moved to the appropriate folder through filters.    I'll describe one particular set;  but the same issue is consistent.

One folder is called "Friends and Family", and has a large number of subfolders.   If a new message comes in for one of these folders -- say "Robert", then the "Friends and Family" folder will be highlighted (as it should be), and if I open it up (click the "+" sign) to see the subfolders, then "Robert" is also highlighted.    All's well so far ...

If I now click on Robert, and then view the new message (it doesn't matter if I just view it or reply to it), the highlight on the new message will disappear (again as it should), as will the highlights on "Robert" and on "Friends and Family".    I can then close "Friends and Family" (click the "-" sign), and the display looks normal.    HOWEVER ... if I now close Thunderbird, and then reopen it, both "Friends and Family" and "Robert" will be highlighted -- and the "Friends and Family" folder will be fully expanded (as if I'd clicked the "+" sign.    There are no new messages, and nothing's highlighted within the "Robert" folder.    If I right-click on "Robert" and select "Mark Folder Read", and then do that for "Friends and Family" as well -- and then close Thunderbird and reopen it, the same thing usually happens.   If I repeat that process it will (finally) display correctly (without opening up "Friends and Family") ... but sometimes it requires 3 or 4 repeats of that process.

Again, the "Friends and Family" is just one example -- the same issue happens with other folders.    This NEVER happens with Thunderbird under XP or Vista ... but happens very consistently under Windows 7  (Ultimate x64).

Any ideas ???
