Yeah. He explained it completely wrong to me. It was actually another POP account that was bouncing emails back. I just simply set 'my server requires smtp authentication' and it was fixed. Thanks!

"553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA (#5.7.1)"
This started to happen for him a few days ago and was working fine before that. The user is running Outlook 2003 with an Exchange account. He is VPN'd into our network. We have several users that VPN in and send email, none are experiencing this issue.
I have checked DNSStuff.com for possible spam issues and nothing turned up. I want to say this is related to SMTP authentication, however, I'm unsure how to check that on an exchange account. I had him telnet port 25 and it worked fine. Also, please keep in mind that this issue happens often but is still intermittent. He's able to send email fine occasionally.
Thanks for your help and please let me know if you need further details.

sounds like he isn't actually using the vpn at that point - that error would be symptomatic of connecting to your external (internet) IP using smtp instead of your internal (lan) IP using mapi.
