Question

Enter Network Password prompt won't go away

Asked by: Lucynka

Hi,

I'm using Google apps. My domain is on their server and my e-mail which goes with that domain gets sent to my Outlook. It's been working fine for several months now. All of a sudden, I started getting the dreaded "Enter Network Password" prompt. I have two e-mail addresses configured with my outlook. This one and a yahoo one. This prompt is only coming up for my own e-mail address (the one with my own domain name).

I've tried changing my password, clearing the Prefetch folder (last time it happened, it helped!), but nothing helps.

Does anyone know the solution?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Lucynka,

Try deleting and recreating your Gmail Apps account in Outlook.

This could be a temporary problem with Google servers and will clear up when servers are less busy.

Hope this helps!

I've recreated my account in outlook, but it's still coming up. I will wait a little while.

login with your gmail account in the browser
goto Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP
make sure that "Enable IMAP" is chosen under IMAP Access.

Done. Pop up still there. I also cannot send any e-mail from that account from Outlook, which is a pain, since it's my business e-mail address.

Even though I unlocked the captcha yesterday, too, today it worked! I got my messages off my server. But I still cannot send any messages from Outlook from that account.

Try alternate SMTP port 587, 465, or 25.

Tried all three. Same error. Cannot send out.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.  Look for SSL options and check the box that says "Use SSL 2.0"

In addition within the Oultook client go to Accounts > Change > More Settings > Advanced tab.  Make sure to set to "Auto" on outgoing mail encryption drop down (the options are SSL, TLS, None, Auto).

by: LucynkaPosted on 2008-08-25 at 15:58:33ID: 22310114

I changed the outgoing mail encryption setting to Auto and it resolved the problem!

I then went to my IE and saw that the SSL 3.0 is checked. What's the difference between that and SSL 2.0?
Also, I mostly use Firefox, if that makes any difference.

And could you tell me what was causing this problem? Why does it appear all of a sudden after everything was working fine for so long?

by: war1Posted on 2008-08-25 at 16:22:55ID: 22310257

Lucynka,

If Gmail and Outlook are working together, you do not need to change to SSL 2.0. Some encryption do not work on SSL 3.0, which is IE7 default.

The change to "Auto" worked because you had encryption set to SSL. It could be temporary not working on the Google server facing you.  So Auto moved you to TLS, which worked.

I sent myself a test message from outlook and my gmail account got it, but Outlook didn't pull it off the google server. I may need to ask a separate question for that. Gmail set up is complicated for me.

by: war1Posted on 2008-08-25 at 16:32:40ID: 22310312

Gmail does not download email sent to yourself via POP to Outlook (or any email client or mobile device). Send a test message from another account.

by: LucynkaPosted on 2008-08-25 at 18:12:28ID: 22310766

I have it set up where my messages sent to my domain account are forwarded to my yahoo account. My Outlook then downloads my yahoo e-mail (and my domain e-mail - I always get two copies of each e-mail sent to my domain account). But this test e-mail didn't make it to my Yahoo account or my outlook.

by: war1Posted on 2008-08-25 at 18:19:43ID: 22310801

Lucynka, I am not sure why Gmail Apps did not forward your email to Yahoo.  By forward, do you mean using Forward function or POP function.

by: LucynkaPosted on 2008-08-25 at 18:45:15ID: 22310934

I have the forward set up as well as POP enabled

by: war1Posted on 2008-08-25 at 19:11:59ID: 22311040

So when you are forwarding emails to Yahoo, you are using the Forwarding function?

by: LucynkaPosted on 2008-08-25 at 19:33:39ID: 22311153

yes

by: LucynkaPosted on 2008-08-25 at 19:42:45ID: 22311207

But I got other emails addressed to my domain address, just not the one I sent to myself.

I will close this question, because you've really earned the points already. And I will post a new one about google apps.

Thank you!

Lucynka, I am not sure why Gmail Apps did not forward your email to Yahoo. You may want to ask a new question about this.
