Recreating the profile did not solve the problem

If she forward the email to another Mac user with Thunderbird he can open it fine.
Please be clear and specific in your reply as I am unclear on issues such as mine types, etc.

Let me resate the question with more info
I have 1 user running Thunderbird (latest build) on Mac OS X 10.5 and when she receives emails with jpeg atatchments she get an error
"Could not complete your request beacuse an unkown or invalid JPEG marker type is found"
She can open attached pdfs, excel, word or other files.
She has tried opening with Photoshop and preview. She can forward to another Mac user and they open it fine.
If she fowards the email to her self she now see's two attachments with the same name. 1 she can open and 1 she still get the error on.
What if instead of opening the file she saves it. Can she then open that file?
If she chooses another photo editing/viewing program will it work when using Open? If she doesn't think she has another she could try Safari. I don't know the default software on a Mac but there must be some other program that will work with jpeg but a browser usually can open them too.

It helps to know the result using OWA. Mac does have a built in Mail program I believe and it would be worth trying in that program. Also you could test Thunderbird on a Windows machine.
Does this happen with any message with a jpg attached, no matter the sender?
If the other Mac user gets the message first then do they also have the problem (when using Thunderbird)?
We are getting helpful info with these tests. Unfortunately it looks like it may be Mac or Thunderbird related (or a combination of them).
What is the name of the jpeg (or jpg) that is attached? The reason I ask is search results for the error you get showed messages on the Adobe forum that made it sound like spaces in the file name could be a cause. I don't think that problem is likely but it is easy to test and verify. A simple image name like file2.jpeg could test if the problem is related to the name.
Let me know how this helps and what you find out from your other tests.

Thanks for the response. What I meant by that line was related to something you said earlier. You seemed to say she could forward the message to herself or another Mac user and it worked. What I was trying to ask or have you test is if the other Mac user got the message originally did they have the problem too? From what we have figured out it would see they will have the problem (i.e. any Mac user getting the email with Thunderbird will have the problem when it is originally sent). As things stand now I am not sure you have to test this but I wanted to explain. It could still be worth checking just to confirm the conclusion we seem to be reaching.
Is it related to the sender at all or would any email with jpg attachment have the problem?

Is the same email client used on the PC? It would not make sense to be some general OS related thing. I could see it being caused or related to a specific email program that is sending the message. A test for this would be to have the person who is sending this message make and send it from OWA instead.
If it does seem related to the email client then what is the program? Looking at the headers (you can edit the sensitive info like email addresses and server's IPs) and complete message source might show something odd.

Hmm, have you tried re-creating the profile and opening a jpeg from the same machine?
