Question

Http header - Connection: close

Asked by: Finepoint08

Hello,

       I am using BlackBerry emulator to browse google.com, in the packet trace, I saw http request from blackberry has HTTP 1.1 header like Connection: close,  but as we know, by default, Http 1.1 set http connection header to keep-alive, furthermore I tried the same website with my blackberry handset, in the trace, I saw http 1.1 header is set to Connection: keep-alive, so I believe that this must be a way to disable/enable Http keep-alive on blackberry, but I just do not know it, please shed some light on this.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the response. But my question was not how to do it progmattically, I was asking how to do it from BlackBerry browser.

By the way,

c.setRequestProperty("Connection", "keep-alive");

it also does not work to keep the underneath TCP socket as expected, please see another open question posted by me

Regards!

From the BlackBerry Browser you don't have any such option.

OHHH, when I browsered websits from my BlackBerry handset, in the packet trace, Connection in Http header of HTTP request from the handset was set to "keep-alive", but it was set to "close" on the blackberry emulator? it is why I thought it is configurable somehow, do you think so?

Regards!

I have doubled checked all the settings and I can confirm you can't manually change this setting from the device.

by: Finepoint08Posted on 2008-03-20 at 11:57:31ID: 21174605

then can I say  that Http1.1 on BlackBerry is not 100% standard compliance, since Http 1.1 standard states that keep-alive is its default setting?

by: dereck2008Posted on 2008-04-01 at 05:50:13ID: 21253331

Maybe simply because the device doesn't support "keep-alive".
Closing each connection affect performances only.
