or rather *potentially* possible if the server supports it

Browse All TopicsI have a Java application that makes HTTP requests to a web server and retrieves some pretty large files. Occasionally, one of our users gets a SocketException with the message "Connection reset." Right now, the application just catches the exception and the download fails, which is a pretty clumsy solutions. I've noticed that I've never had this problem with a commercial web browser. Can someone please give me some insight into how web browsers and other commercial HTTP clients deal with this problem so the entire request continues transparently when the connection is closed? Does it just restart the entire HTTP request, or is there an easier way? Thanks.

With Http 1.1 it would be possible to resume, but otherwise, yes
