Browse All TopicsHello,
I have been tasked with creating a secure FTP site for one of our partners. The idea is that our partner will automate the transfer of files between their servers and our servers.
Quite simply, i have setup an FTP site using WSFTP Server, and have installed a certificate so that it is an FTP site with SSL support.
Our partner has now come back to me saying they would prefer to use a FTP SSH link, the reason being that only one "tunnel" is required through their firewall, whereas SSL requires multiple tunnels.
Can anyone explain to me the difference between SSH and FTP with SSL, and additionally explain the comments our partner has provided.
Am i right in thinking that FTP SSL requires multiple tunnels because of the following:
1) If the client is using active connections: Server firewall should have 1024 and higher outbound and Client firewall should have 1024 and higher inbound.
2) If client is using passive connections: Server firewall should have 1024 and higher inbound and Client firewall should have 1024 and higher outbound.
However, are there any other security considerations when deciding whether to use FTP SSL or FTP SSH?
Thanks in advance
Al
