The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Problems with uTorrent transfer speed how do I improve it?

Tags: uTorrent Download Settings
I had my settings just right on uTorrent and my speeds went up to 1mb per second and after some changes to my network it suddenly dropped about 80% speed! The network changes were just the setup of an additional computer so I'm not sure if thats the cause.

My question is to find out about the main things and most important things that effect the speed. Theres plenty settings such as UPnP which have never made a difference to my transfer rate.

I'm on Windows XP and using a Belkin wireless router. I configure the router to forward the same port as I'm using on uTorrent and the DHT status is ok with the Green network tick symbol showing too.

I considered that when I hit my fastest speed of 1mb EVER that my service provider has made changes as they can do with torrents but how likley is this to be the case?

Any advice?!  my team uses utorrent to transfer huge project files overnight so we do not need to wait during the day but with these transfer speeds I'm waiting 2-3 days now lol

Any help would be great if even possible!

What changes did yuo make apart from adding the new PC?  I'm assuming the router uses DHCP to allocate an IP address.  Do you see a difference in speed when the new machine is offline/disconnected?

No change when the new pc is off or on. I've went through all the guides but that bitorrent one is the daddy a few screen shots and it would be perfect.

DHCP is on

Right now I have managed to reach 200kb in last 12 hours so there is improvement but if I can hit 1mb once I want to do it again.

I'm starting to think the service provider is just capping it or something and its an issue to take up with them as a friend gets well over 1mb with ease but I will try a little longer

thanks

If your ISP is simply blocking ports then set uT to use a port with a really high number.  If you're using Comcast or another ISP that checks behaviour then they will be capping you because of the irregular packet detection and changing ports will make no difference.

I used the following settings and this effected a lot for utorrent for me
http://www.johntp.com/2006/04/19/how-to-increase-download-speeds-of-utorrent/

make sure when downlading file ur bandwidth usage is on unlimited (if u downlading a file) and make the sharing to 1 kb shared....this will increase ur speed to almost maximum...

also if ur coligues are sharing files over the net .....kindly say to them to use there all bandwidth set on to unlimited (sharing ) and make the downlading restricted to 1 kb ..... this will help a lot in the speed

make the above tweaks ..and see if this helps .... !! i dont think so ur service provider have blocked torrents ....

Most likely it was a coincidence and it was in fact your ISP that made the changes.

You can try Deluge: http://deluge-torrent.org/

Which implements some methods to try and fool ISPs torrent throttling - (in my case, it's the only client that achieves full bandwidth download speeds.)

Speed is a little better but I think my overall problem is my ISP. I've monitored my network very close and the speeds flux and drop to 50kb everytime I reach 800-1mb. If I keep it at a steady 200 it never changes so its as if its a reaction.

Also once it happens unless I change ports I will continue to get that speed. If I wait a bit and change port numbers then I can reach 200 again

This only started happening recently before speeds were stable.

thanks for your help

Are you using T1, Partial T, DSL, ADSL or cable model?
