ftp win 2008 r2
Can you setup an FTP server on Win 2008 Server R2? If so, will I be able to let users with any internet connection access and look at the files? What I need is an FTP server that I can setup that I have an admin username and password that loads the files and can edit them and a username and password that access the ftp but can only view or download the files but cannot edit or delete them. Any help would be appreciated.

What would be the quickest and easiest way to have users go to a website and type in a username and password and then login to see folders and files but not be able to edit them only view them?

Guess I'm not familiar enough with setting this up to do it. I can understand the usernames and passwords but how do you determine the ip address that the browser will have to point to?
First you need to setup an FTP server.
Check it here how to.
Then in your internal network you have to type the ip address of your server in the browser.
Open IE and type in the address field ftp://192.168.1.1
This will be the internal IP access for your internal users.
Because you are using an private IP external users (internet Users) can´t access to the FTP from the internet, that why you will need a public IP address.
But I need to know if you have and manage an external DNS server.

OK. I have been provided an FTP site. I wanted something a little nicer so I setup a cubby file sharing site from LOGMEIN. This works. What I did is logged into the FTP with a username and password like I wanted and in there I have an internet shortcut for the cubby folder that contains the files that I need employees to use. Works great. They just click the link and it works. Except the internet shortcut will not work on Firefox. I even made the shortcut from firefox and dragged it into the FTP using windows explorere and it will not work. IE works fine. When I go to the ftp on the internet and click on the link in firefox it just brings up a bunch of text. When I go into windows explorer and click on the same link (making sure my default browser is Firefox) it woks just fine. Any ideas on this problem?
Probably you will need an addon for firefox, or more easily install filezilla.

Yes, but for this the FTP will need to have a Public IP Address, and if your private network is behind a firewall you will need to open the necessary ports.
