The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PHP Telnet

I don't know why the script at
http://www.geckotribe.com/php-telnet/
does not work.

I tried to

$telnet = new PHPTelnet();

$result = $telnet->Connect('10.236.4.0','abcdefg','password');

But it doesn't work....why?

Try the second example on the page but use:
$telnet->show_connect_error=1;

instead. Also, disable your firewall. The firewall may be blocking the connection.

Suppose I use cmd and type o 10.200.5.2 and connect to the remote server...
then it ask me to type login name
then it ask me to type password
then it show a screen with a list of options of me.

I want to choose option 1
then I type 1 and press enter

how can I do such things in PHP?

Not sure if you noticed this on the page:

NOTE: With PHP Telnet versions before 1.1, the following code will not display error messages for certain types of connection failures. If you are using an older version, either upgrade to the current version or use the next code example.

Also, try adding a default case to see if what $result you are getting.

if it is the console of the telnet you want, you may have to write a lot of code to read, parse, print on screen and read input from STDIN. But why should someone do something like this because there is a telnet client with all OS which do this much better.

The telnet script is to automate this, instead of typing in at the telnet client this script can send those characters to the remote server and get the result it produced.

Note: If you have to type "Enter" after command you have to send "\n" at the end of the command.

I can see the error message now.

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\Web Server\foa_appsys\portass\port_assignment\PHPTelnet.php on line 108

oh....what can I do...sorry I'm not really know anything about it....anyone can help?

03.03.2008 at 11:16PM PST, ID: 21038915
I can connect to it now...
but I need to write a program to wait for the word login to the screen...how to do that?

you may require to increase the time limit of the script execution

use this in your script
set_time_limit (0)

also check php manual for set_time_limit
http://www.php.net/set_time_limit

for waiting for the login screen you have to parse the return value you get from the telnet connection the $result in the script

03.04.2008 at 01:41AM PST, ID: 21039458
what happen if I set it to 0?

03.04.2008 at 01:42AM PST, ID: 21039459
is that mean no time limit?

03.04.2008 at 02:48AM PST, ID: 21039760

Rank: Master

yes 0 means it will run till you break it or the script finishes. But this is a bad idea most of the time unless you require it. If you set any value other than 0 then it is the time you will get from the time that line is executed, not from the start time of the script.
