No reponse from "telnet smpt.xxx.xxx 25"

Zones: Exchange Email Server, SSH / Telnet Software, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
I use "telnet smpt.xxx.xxx 25" to test the smtp connection. But after I typed this command, I ony got a blank screen  (It did not show "Could not connect to ... " or "220 ...... ESMTP" ).  Then if I typed any key, it existed.

This situation happens in our company's dedicated server in ISP.  On my development machine, I can use "telnet 25" to successully connect smtp.

How can I know why the dedicated server in ISP cannot connect to smtp server?

Please help, thanks a lot
